ok, i'm signing up for this as well... but is it possible? i don't know nothing about film chemicals, but infrared seems a lot different from other films. wouldn't it be really expensive? would lomography (remember, it's a company) profit from it?
anyway, i've never been able to buy infrared, so i'm up for it (at least, if lomography made it, then i'd be able to buy it, even if it's too expensive).

by this I'm trying to show that there's a great interest in seeing this film survive and have a new future. if they see that a lot of people are interested in this film and would buy it, then maybe they would give it a go! that's what we can hope for right?
maybe they can take a break from making new cameras for a little while and try to get to the bottom of this film. :)

Happy to add my name in support of this petition too. However, I don't think LSI actually 'produce' any film themselves - they just repackage film from Agfa and other manufacturers under their own brand. Still, if they can come to an arrangement with Kodak to make infrared film more readily accessible, I'm all for it!

I'm signing, also. This is complicated, though. LSI will have to license the chemistry from Kodak, then find a manufacturer, or maybe just present Kodak with a big enough market possibility to make it in 35mm and 120. When it was made, it only came as 9.5in X 400ft giant rolls for K-7 aerocameras. It looks like all that's left is at www.tarquinius.de with Dean Bennici.

For one I'd like Lomo to take this article off my hands because I'm tired of getting so many notifications on it :) although that's a good thing.
@pheebs I think it's how the colours come out. because all the colours are completely whacked out crazy, so many pictures look like a dreamscape, unreal. red trees and grass, milky white skin, green skies! I feel like this film is the essence of lomography. :)

Hey, thanks for reminding me of this great petition ;) sure I'd like to tell @pheebs what makes this film so special.
The most important thing is, that the colors are really unpredictable! Sure, you can say, there are some known color differences with the filters, for example black is getting red etc.... and when you combine it with a special filter you get more ore less an idea about the color how it would be (this is also how they make this effect with some software tools). But there is also the infrared light which you don't see and you have no idea how it will come out, and only infrared film can see it! And that's always a big surprise. Especially for plants for example.
Second, the color combinations are fantastic. When you have a crossed film or a redscale or so, you also have nice colors, but they are more or less the same. The film is getting more blue, green, red... some great films also get a higher contrast... but imagine the Velvia or Sensia plants with the great blue sky of the old Agfa CT Precisa for example! You can't get this with a "normal" slides film.
If there'd be any possibility to save this film this would be fantastic! Please buy the patent from kodak or make them produce it again and to sell it to lomography users ;)

All colors are shifted some steps on the Aerochrome, that's what makes the pictures look so strange and interesting. The big problem with this film is that even for Kodak it wasn't easy to produce so they stopped it - and Kodak is one of the biggest film producer on earth. They sold it - as far as i know - for about 35$ (€?) each roll, so the EIR was a quite expensive film even when it was produced and when many professional (or amateur) photographers used it, and not only a small group of Lomographers. I think it's that hard to produce because of the Infrared sensitivity. Maybe it's possible to produce some color-shifting films without the IR sensitivity but just with another arrangement of the color layers of the film - that would produce some crazy results, when green is red, red is blue and blue is green. Or you could try to produce some film with just 2 layers... or without some/all protection layers between the color layers. Such ideas are the only ones which i think to be realistic.

@diwen definition? you mean resolution? IDK man, I don't think any of them have been photoshopped. it's medium format and medium format whacks out pretty big negatives, huge images with a large scanner. there's a reason they sent a Hasselblad to the moon, and not a 35mm camera.
