Sun Thrift Store: Possibly the Greatest Thrift Store in the World!
7 19 Share TweetOne is not supposed to share wonderful thrift stores, but this one is such a grand, dusty, funky-smelling adventure that I must share for the sake of Lomography!
The Sun Thrift Store is a charity store benefiting the Catalyst Foundation for AIDS Awareness and Care. It is absolutely vast and remains blissfully unaware of any trends, having rather random but very low prices with Wednesday and Saturday at 50% off before noon and senior discount Tuesday. There is also a daily colour tag
special. People bring in donations constantly and everyday their trucks are bringing in donations of entire estates.
As you enter, you are struck by the sheer size of the place, and then by the funky smell. They never pre-wash before selling, never have and never will. Much of my clothing, shoes, and hats were bought here through the years, just washed, sprayed or dry-cleaned before wearing. Almost half of my camera collection comes from Sun Thrift Store: Yashica Microtec Zoom 70 for US$6.99, Nikon Zoom Touch 500S for $3.99, Minolta Explorer Freedom Zoom for $4.99, Olympus AM100 for $2.99, Yashica Electro 35 GSM and Lomo Electra 112 both for $45.00 after much haggling. They want more for metal cameras. They sell toy cameras, some new in box, for $1.49. I have a few for giving away. Some of my dishes, appliances, and decorator things also came from Sun Thrift at very low prices. Everything is priced for fast turnover.
Here’s the address and phone number:
