My apologies to those of you who have seen these before in her home, but I thought they came out really well and wanted to see them here too. ;-)

  • The 1000 tori shrines in Inari, Kyoto.

    condiviso da susielomovitz il 2010-11-30

Fushimi Inari was founded in 711, and is the main shrine of a complex which trails all over the Inari mountain. In Japan Inari is the patron of wealth, and so the entire complex is worshipped by businesses from around Kyoto and beyond. In order to receive good fortune local businesses donate 'torii' which are traditional Japanese gates meant to mark the transition from the profane to the sacred. Fushimi Inari now has many thousand of these Torii all around the mountain, each one bearing the name of its donor.

From ”filmsoup-swap” project with my favorite photographer fotobes. About this photo I shot first in Japan (Matsumoto Castle, Nagano), and then he started shooting in UK. He shot at Millennium Bridge, London. After finishing the roll he ”cooked” the film. On completing the roll, he mixed together some boiled water with silica gel and washing detergent, and left it to cool a little. Then he went into his make-shift darkroom and pulled out the film from the canister. Next he flicked and dabbed the ”soup” onto the exposed film. He waited for a few minutes and then rewound the film into the canister. Afterwards he went to the kitchen and dropped the film into just-boiled water, and after 5 minutes I transferred it into cold water for a minute. Then back in the darkroom he pulled the film out from the canister again and dried it with a hairdryer, and when done he rewound the film. The film was then developed at Asda, and scanned at The Vault in Brighton. We don’t discuss what we have each taken photographs of, so the results are always a surprise. Check out fotobes’s album from the same project. http://www.lomography.com/homes/fotobes/albums/1995715-lc-a-plus-film-soup-swap-with-hodachrome

These images are the results of two film swaps with the genius lomographer @hodachrome.. It was based around the EBS technique (exposing both sides): we shot a roll of film on the normal side of a roll of film, and when finished the film was then reversed in a darkroom and rewound, so that the second exposure was shot on the wrong side. When shooting on the reverse side, the image is red-scaled - all colours become shades of red, and the images therefore have a combination of true and red-scale colours. One swap started with me in the UK and finished in Japan, whilst another made the reverse journey.. Here is @hodachrome's album.. http://www.lomography.com/homes/hodachrome/albums/1984566-ebs-filmswap-with-fotobes
