A Touch of Magic With a 22-Year-Old Expired Roll of Film With @systemdevice

Lomographer systemdevice, a.k.a. Marian Pislaru recently uploaded an album in his LomoHome, a series of surreal photographs of Cluj-Napoca, Romania filled with dreamy purple hues. The twist is, he actually used film which was expired for 22 years!

The series boasts the beautiful city of Cluj-Napoca drenched in pink, purple, and orange hues. There's rich scenery, architecture, and modernity crossing with each other as Marian photographs streets, shops, items, clouds, trees, animals, flowers, and portraits.

It’s known as the unofficial capital of the Transylvanian province, now known for its diverse cultural scene in the visual arts, theater, and nightlife. Gothic and Neo-Gothic landmarks are found everywhere, as with its numerous theaters and museums.

Taken with his Lomo Smena 8 and with a Triplet T-43 lens, the film he used has been expired for already 22 years – a roll of Konica 400VX.

Because film stocks are made with certain conditions and environmental, temperamental sensitivities in mind, when stocks expire, their results can become unreliable. This includes loss of film speed and color shifting. Expired films shift colors especially to cooler tones like blue and purple.
