Testing Masks

I feel like a mask project coming on so I have been testing my old masks... Transparency masks, in a way, decrease the amount of sunlight that reaches the film so I have been testing them with my Dianas, which are already not very capable of capturing light.

Some of these shots I double-exposed on a cloudy afternoon both on cloudy setting and some I shot on a fairly-bright partially-cloudy morning. Then I pushed the film one stop when I developed it.

Obviously, Dianas + masks for singles/doubles are best on a clear sunny day.

oh! I like this idea! When I first saw these pictures, I thought they were double exposures: 1º, shot to a book and 2º the other picture, I've never imagined it was a mask!!! GREAT!!! you know how much I love your work!!!

This is nice, but I wonder if the same could be done with double exposures from the computer screen. Sort of: enlarge an Edgar Allan Poe poem on your screen, then take photos of it, then respool, go out and shoot again. What do you think?

@adash I did think of that before but I was never good at taking photos on screens. I always get those pixelated lines. Maybe you can try it and let me know about the results? That would be faster and cheaper (free)! xo

Computer screen would be nice but I think it's hard to do it with a Diana or Holga or any other camera that doesn't have a light meter or doesn't have manual settings. It probly would underexpose the first shot or perhaps overexpose it depending on the light condition. Hard to tell :)

Awesome concept Michelle! You've inspired me to dive into my bookshelf and find some cool passage to expose on film.

@adash @superkulisap I used a 24" computer screen before to do multiple exposures. It works best if you use an SLR, a Canon A-1 50mm in my case. I've also photographed pages of a book for doubles with success.
