€300,000 GIANT PARASOLS INSTEAD OF TREES!
It's been all over the french media: television, radio, newspapers and social media... The 10 trees (robinia) in the square in front of Chartres Cathedral were uprooted in the middle of a night, then replaced with enormous parasols, worth a total of €300,000. All on a slab of light-colored concrete that has taken over the entire space.
An absurd, unilateral decision, and completely contrary to what needs to be done to combat global warming and land degradation. Not to mention the Disney-ization of our ancient heritage...
Anyway.
I went to see as soon as the parasols were installed. Huge phallic symbols that ironically sum up about local politics...
People are stunned... I took these few photos, which I hope, through the humor I tried to instill in them, illustrate the absurdity of the whole thing.
