my maternal grandfather, james samuel williams, jr

my 98 year old grandfather. originally from coffee springs, alabama. went into the US army (WWII) at 19. was blown off the back of a tank in Houffalize, Belgium. went to paris to recuperate and then back to the front lines, where he helped liberate Mauthausen and Gussen concentration camps. He had taken pictures of the atrocities he'd seen, but my grandmother made him destroy the photos, so that their children wouldn't see them. He has very vivid memories of his experiences there. he bought me my first guitar and encouraged me to play from an early age.
