Amber Valley Evangelista's Family Moments Captured on LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed Film

Spring kicks off the season of barbecues, family gatherings, and outdoor play. When we asked photographer Amber Valley Evangelista to test the new LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed, she delivered dreamy results from Easter Sunday that perfectly embody the feelings behind those sweet family memories.

We recently sat down with her to chat about the story behind these photos and hear about her first impressions of the film!

Hi Amber, welcome to Lomography Magazine! Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what you do?

I’m Amber Valley Evangelista, a devoted mother and creative photographer, passionate about documenting the vibrant stories of families of color. My affinity for vintage film cameras lends a unique warmth to my photos, which is evident in my venture, Valley in Film. Through this platform, I aim to make film photography accessible by teaching techniques via social media, studio classes, and mentorship programs. My ability to collaborate with a diverse range of artists has earned me partnerships with companies, allowing me to host free community events and exhibitions. My Legacy Archives series showcases my commitment to preserving family heritages and reinforcing cultural identity. In all this, my love for my community shines through, and my mission is to share the rich tapestry of shared histories and diverse narratives with the world.

Tell us about this shoot. What did you decide to photograph?

It’s Easter Day and our friends invite my family over for a BBQ and egg hunt. The kids' favorite part about visiting is getting the chance to interact with all the animals. I took advantage of this occasion to snap photos of my kids handling the chickens and baby chicks.

What were your first impressions when you saw the results?

My first impression on the results was that the film does amazing on different weather conditions. I also have to admit I am most impressed with how highlights were blown out in the harsh sun while still keeping some detail and grain.

How would you describe the look of the new LomoChrome Color ‘92 Sun-kissed?

The look of LomoChrome Color ‘92 Sun-Kissed is a fun stock to get a vintage aesthetic with minimal effort. The overall tones are cool with beautiful pops of orange/red. It is definitely a stock with a good amount of grain, but still allows for details. The texture of my kids hair was captured beautifully.

Do you have a favorite shot taken with this film? Tell us about it.

My favorite photo is where my son and daughter are both holding a baby chick. I feel this photo showed the potential the film stock has with capturing details while also embracing the grain.

What do you think is the ideal situation for shooting the LomoChrome Color ‘92 Sun-kissed?

Photographer’s choice! I tend to love shooting in the sun and working with warm tones. This film does great for summertime snaps. However, I was surprised to find that my favorite snaps from the roll had cooler tones from when the clouds came out. I think LomoChrome Color ‘92 Sun-Kissed is absolutely PERFECT for popping in the camera for summer escapades.

Did you face any challenges during this shoot?

I always get a little nervous about how my photos will come out when testing a new film stock. What started off as a sunny day became overcast halfway through the roll. While this film stock is designed to excel in full sun, I was excited to see how it would perform in both conditions so I continued snapping away. After getting my scans back my nerves instantly dissolved and was replaced with complete excitement.

In your opinion, what makes a great photo?

The best photos need no cues. I believe that the most authentic photos are taken candidly because it captures a genuine moment. But what truly makes a great photo is its ability to evoke emotion from the viewer.
