Alexandra Redoubt was constructed in 1868 to protect settlers in Alexandra settlement. Deep earthworks form a V from the bottom of the photo to protect a blockhouse & flagpole, both symbols of British power. An uneasy truce existed between an aukati(line) dividing the Waikato from the King Country(Maori) Land was confiscated on a large scale. by the British. In 1872 the Armed Constabulary took over the redoubt. in 1900 a church was constructed on the site. It was moved in 1959.
