It's A Shame About Ray

It’s a shame about Ray - lived a life of hard work, struggles and pain.
Although, the revving roar of the in-line 6 cylinder engine and the gleeful whines of the three speed transmission called it quits years ago, there is a certain elegance in this rusty wreck. Built in a time and age when a putting pride in ones work went a long way.

    Thanks for the comment.
The spiel that accompanies the image was inspired by a childhood memory of a truck driver who was engaged by the local fodder store to make the deliveries to the properties in my area. I would often see him out and about making his deliveries. I can still recall the thunderous roar of his truck, fully laden with bags of animal feed and bales of hay as it climbed up the hills. Gears grinding, engine revving as he double de-clutched. This was the sound of working hard for a living.
Ray was very much what we now call ‘old school’. Worked hard for a living but played just as hard too. Aussie beer, cigarettes and other things I was too young to know about.
By the time I got to my mid-teens, Ray and his old truck was but a memory. Talk around the town said it was pride that killed him. I was too green to know what that meant.

Up until the late 1980’s these old trucks where a common site on the roads and out on farms in the area I grew-up in. Although these days it is rare to see one out in the wild [the streets], you can still encounter them quietly rusting away in farmers’ fields.
